TruckCunt is a direct response to Truck Nutz. For those of you city dwellers who have been spared the encounter, Truck Nutz is a mass-produced resin trinket styled in the form of human testicles, usually found dangling under the rear bumper of a pick-up truck. Ephemera of male dominance and aggression is plentiful. Reminders of where women do and do not “belong” are persistent. Especially during this (prolonged) backlash against gender equity (when will it end?!)
Representations of woman power are also visible… BUT WE CAN HAVE MORE! I am a proud driver of a pick-up truck, rider of a fast road bicycle and owner of a vagina. As I age, parent and teach, I have come to appreciate the personal/social/political value of taking up s-p-a-c-e and making myself heard. Driving my truck makes me feel boss. Cycling through the city gives me the truest feeling of freedom. The dangling symbol of woman power is a reminder to claim my space, my speed and my strength in male-dominated spaces.
My original ceramic sculptures are based on drawings by Tee Corinne, published in her famous “Cunt Coloring Book” (1975). The TruckCunt project pays homage to our mothers and grandmothers of the feminist movement. I make silicone molds from the original ceramic sculptures and then cast the final sculptures in resin. Ceramic is more beautiful, economical and planet-friendly, but resin can withstand the bounce and tumble of a truck.
TruckCunt claims “VIRILITY” for vagina-owners and self-identifying women.
